Indo-German Cooperation for Safety, Health & Wellbeing

About IGC-SHW

The Indo-German Cooperation for Safety, Health & Wellbeing (formerly Indo-German Focal Point) is an initiative aimed at fostering international collaboration to improve working conditions, reduce occupational risks, and enhance wellbeing across sectors. This joint effort of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution (DGUV) is supported by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the building trade (BG BAU), the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the energy, textile, electrical and media products sectors (BG ETEM), and the Internationaler Verein für Prävention in der Branche Handel, Warenlogistik und Hafenumschlag e.V. (International Association for Prevention in Trade, Goods Logistics and Port Handling).

GUIDING PHILOSOPHY:

Vision Zero - a transformational approach that views all accidents, diseases, and harm at the workplace as preventable. The Vision Zero integrates safety, health, and wellbeing into every level of policy and practice. By shifting the approaches from reaction to prevention, and focusing on leadership, systems thinking, and worker engagement, we are building a culture where zero harm is not just an ideal but a realistic and shared goal.

VISION:

A world where every worker in India and Germany enjoys safe, healthy, and dignified working conditions through collaborative innovation, shared knowledge, and sustainable occupational safety practices.

MISSION:

Through Indo-German cooperation, we bring together public institutions, government bodies, private organizations, experts, and social partners from both countries to exchange knowledge, implement pilot programs, and build local capacities.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Organizing broad awareness campaigns; imparting training; carrying out research studies and surveys; organizing and conducting international, national and regional conferences, seminars and workshops leading to the development of new strategies and approaches for improving safety management systems, reducing occupational hazards, and promoting a culture of health and responsibility in workplaces.

  • Building capacity, developing material, methods, procedures and strengthening the national movement (including unorganized sector) on safety, health and environment to prevent and mitigate the loss of life, human suffering and economic losses.

About the DGUV

The DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance) is the umbrella association of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors (the BGs and the public-sector accident insurers respectively). It assumes responsibility for the common interests of its member institutions and promotes their functions in the interests of both member companies and insured individuals. The DGUV represents the statutory accident insurance institutions in their dealings with policymakers, regional, national, European and international institutions, and employers' and employees' representative bodies.
